Interactions of sand dunes 

Sand dunes rarely exist in isolation; it is                          (COMMON) to find a lone dune standing alone. Instead, they tend to form in extensive collections known as dune fields.

While it is well-known that sand dunes migrate and that smaller dunes move more swiftly compared to larger ones,                          (RESEARCH) have recently made an intriguing discovery regarding their interactions. It turns out that dunes possess a unique ability to communicate with their                          (NEIGHBOUR) dunes, and they can even exert a force that pushes these neighboring dunes farther away.

Here's how it unfolds: when a flow of water or wind impacts a dune, it generates an energy disturbance that transfers a slight push to the adjacent dune. As a result, the neighboring dune accelerates its movement, aligning with the flow. This process continues as long as the flow persists until a point is reached where the distance between dunes is sufficient to prevent the disturbance from influencing them. Interestingly, scientists previously assumed that identical dunes would move in sync at the same speed, but                          (AMAZING), they observed that these dunes repel each other, pushing away in opposite directions.

Although we now understand that dunes possess a means of communication through their movements, it remains an intriguing question whether they                          (APOLOGY) for the unintended consequences they may cause.
