Oliver

The second term commenced. Throughout it, Oliver never once 30                           a lesson at school. Upon his return home each evening, he proceeded directly to the bedroom he shared with his elder brother. There, aided by a torch, he diligently studied for hours. There were even 31                           when his mother discovered Oliver sound asleep on the floor, surrounded by open books.

Every day, he continued his visits to his uncle, who possessed extensive knowledge about various countries. His uncle persistently taught Oliver a multitude of subjects, 32                           as if he was aware of the precise point where Oliver's schoolteachers had left off. This change in routine 33                           his brother, as Oliver no longer accompanied him to the cinema on Saturday nights to watch new films. On this particular morning, Oliver arrived at school exceptionally early. He was about to participate in a mathematics competition. When they arrived at the Headmaster's office, the teacher said, "You can sit anywhere you like, Oliver. Just be sure to cease talking the moment the Headmaster enters."
